Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat revealed that Gwyneth Ann Chua, the COVID-positive quarantine violator, has infected her companions and the employees of the establishment where she stayed.
Concerned government agencies are investigating reports that a returning overseas Filipino (ROF) from the United States who was COVID-19 positive allegedly did not complete her quarantine. Instead, the Filipina went out and attended a party in Poblacion, Makati City, and infected others.
“We are still investigating the case and coordinating with concerned offices to further determine the veracity of the report,” the Department of Health (DOH) said in a statement on Thursday, December 30.
The DOT identified the Filipina as Gwyneth Ann Chua. Chua reportedly violated protocols after leaving Berjaya Makati Hotel before her quarantine period ended and partied in Makati with her friends.
DOT chief Romulo-Puyat said Chua admitted she skipped the quarantine. Based on the report, the violator checked into the hotel on December 22, attended the party on December 23, and tested positive for COVID-19 on December 27.
Berjaya Makati Hotel told DOT-National Capital Region that Gwyneth Ann Chua was transferred to another hotel for isolation on December 29.
‘Party Girl’ quarantine violator Gwyneth Ann Chua under probe
However, Puyat said Berjaya lied when Chua reported staying in their hotel since she checked in.
According to the DOT chief, the violator’s companions had executed affidavits and provided TikTok videos that they were with Chua the day after she arrived and that they also contracted COVID-19.
Puyat also disclosed that Gwyneth Ann Chua even boasted that she had a “connection” that allowed her to cut her quarantine period short.
“The girl was in fact…nagyayabanng siya kasi they were wondering na kasi kakadating lang niya bakit kasama nila, and then she told her friends na she had connections daw kaya she could cut quarantine. So ‘yung malas on her fifth day, bumalik sa hotel, nagpa-swab, nag-positive. Tapos ‘yung mga ibang nakasama niya, nag-positive rin. In fact ‘yung mga establishments, nag-positive rin sila roon. Ang daming nag-positive because of the girl,” Puyat said.
The hotel and Gwyneth Ann Chua may face criminal charges for violating health and safety protocols.
